VPN on Ubuntu: UMD

These are the step-by-step instructions to connect to the University of Maryland wireless network, by VPN.

1. Install network-manager-vpnc, because the University requires Cisco’s VPN client. Type this in the terminal.

> sudo apt-get install network-manager-vpnc

2. Now go to the Network manager icon and find VPN Connections menu. This should pop out the configure option.

Now go ahead and add a new VPN connection.

3. Once the new connections window opens, give the following information.

Gateway: vpn.umd.edu

Username: UID username

User password: UID password

Group name: UMD

Group password: i#|fOd!jisYR5r9N

Save the options and your VPN connection is ready to connect. Happy VPNing!
